HP086 SDAC Software Developer

We are seeking a software developer to support the Solar Data Analysis Center (SDAC) at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD in the acquisition and maintenance of solar physics science data. The SDAC supports the scientific analysis of the Sun and is the designated archive for NASA’s solar physics science data. Science data from spacecraft are copied into the SDAC and made available to the community. To support the scientific community, it is vital that data flows reliably and understandably from external partner institutions into and out of the SDAC.

Duties:

  • Analyze current data acquisition pipelines.
  • Develop and implement new data acquisition, management, and verification capabilities.
  • Implement monitoring and notification tools to understand pipeline performance.
  • Interact with NASA solar physics mission teams and develop data transfer plans and capabilities with those teams.

Required Experience:

  • 1-2 years Python software development with experience in data processing pipelines.
  • 1-2 years implementing and using free and open-source log analysis tools and process monitoring/management tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, and MMonit, on multiple hosts.

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

Desired Experience:

  • Software version control systems (e.g. Git/GitHub).
  • Linux-based operating systems.
  • Interactive Data Language (IDL) programming.
  • Online data visualization (e.g. analytics graphs).

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
