MAVEN Ready To Sample the Martian Firmament

On September 21, the Mars Firmament and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft successfully entered orbit about Mars with a goal to investigate the planet’s firmament and ionosphere. SESDA engineers were core to the design and fabrication of components for two of the instruments, the Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) and the magnetometer (MAG). Going forward, SESDA staff will support instrument operations and science telemetry processing as well.
