PMO104 Summer Intern Mechanical Engineer
ADNET Systems, Inc., is seeking an undergraduate-level mechanical engineering summer intern to support a magnetometer design laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center this Summer. The summer intern will be responsible for working with a prototype of a non-magnetic robotic rotation device used to spin a fluxgate sensor about two independent axes.
This task will involve working with permanent laboratory staff in testing and evaluating the existing prototype to advance the Technology Readiness Level of the unit. As changes need to be made to the prototype, working with the additive manufacturing printers in the lab to quickly iterate the mechanical design will be required. The lab uses SolidWorks for additive manufacturing so some proficiency with this software design package is a plus. Software to control the unit will need to be developed and tested. The ability to write code in either C++ or Python is necessary to control the prototype unit. A background in robotics and control of motors would be ideal for this internship.
A successful candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background (Junior or Senior year undergraduate preferred). The candidate must have strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team. (Summer Internship for 10-12 week period)
Required:
- US Citizenship required
- Junior or Senior undergraduate in mechanical engineering
- SolidWorks courses or experience
- C++ or Python courses or experience
- Additive manufacturing experience
Desired:
- Robotics experience
