We are seeking a Data Technician who will serve as the SOHO Science Operations Coordinator, supporting the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) Experimenter’s Operation Facility (EOF) on-site at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.

Duties include:

• Supporting instrument science planning and commanding
• Monitoring instrument health and safety
• Overseeing data production processing
• Providing general backup support to the instrument team

The position is 30 hours per week and is ideally suited for a college undergraduate who is interested in, and able to take on the responsibilities required to obtain, hands-on experience supporting an operating NASA space mission.

We are seeking a candidate who is a fast learner, a problem-solver, and a reliable team-player who can also be trusted to work independently. Previous experience working in a spacecraft operations environment is a strong plus.

The position requires occasional after hours (weekends/evenings) on call duty to support operations; hence, residence in the Washington, DC metro area with ready access to car transport is required.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma.
• At least one year of experience using Mac OS and/or Linux computer systems.
• Proven work ethic; demonstrated reliability and responsibility.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to confidently determine priorities.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks.
• Capable of developing meticulous, error-free, reports. 
• US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with residency in the US for the past 3 years is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance is required.
