SESDA Supports Server Migration

Several SESDA System Administrators, Network & Security Engineers and Facility Specialists supported server migrations from New York to Greenbelt (including the physical move of the servers, installations of racks & servers in a dedicated GSFC server room, configuring network devices, arranging and setting up power and cooling, etc.) after NASA cancelled the GISS facility lease with Columbia University on short notice. The whole effort took less than 3 weeks and the GISS website was down for less than an hour, thanks to careful planning of staff in both NY and MD and outstanding efforts from all involved. We received congratulations and acknowledgements from the Director of GSFC, Makenzie Lystrup.
The pictures show the GSFC location and server installation as of June 5, 2025 – more equipment arrived that day to be installed.
