SESDA II Supports GSFC Day in Annapolis
In honor of Goddard’s 50th birthday, SESDA II Education and Public Outreach staff participated in the Goddard Space Flight Center Day at the Maryland State Legislature, held in Annapolis, MD on February 12, 2009. This all-day event was sponsored by two Maryland State Senators and took place in the West Hall at the Miller Senate Building. There were approximately 20 NASA and NOAA interactive exhibits spanning Earth system science, Heliophysics and Planetary Science.
Over 600 visitors attended the event with approximately 25% being delegates and staffers, 50% were Girls Scouts and Navy mid-shipmen and the remaining 25% were members of the general public. GSFC Director Rob Strain was in attendance and Dr. Jim Garvin gave a special keynote speech regarding GSFC’s current and future missions and capabilities. This year’s event was almost twice as large as last year’s event and was very well received by delegates, staffers and the general public visiting the area.
