SS112 Instrument Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrument Engineer to support the Planetary Magnetosphere Laboratory at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The Instrument Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, calibrating, and integrating magnetometer systems used for scientific research in both space-flight and ground-based application. The successful candidate will have a strong background and an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in engineering, physics, or a related field, and experience with magnetometer technology. The candidate must have strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work both independently and on a team.

Some of the tasks required by this position include:

  • Design and develop magnetometer systems, including sensor design, analog electronics, and digital signal processing
  • Test and calibrate magnetometer systems to ensure optimal performance and accuracy
  • Collaborate with teams, both here at Goddard and at other institutions
  • Develop and implement algorithms for magnetometer calibration, data processing and analysis
  • Troubleshoot magnetometer systems to resolve technical issues
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including requirements documentation, interface control documents, design documents, and calibration procedures
  •  Participate in magnetics cleanliness measurements

Required Experience:

  • M.S. or PhD degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience with magnetometer systems including their design and calibration
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with residency in the US for the past 3 years is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 Investigation through NASA
