SA040 Mission Support Linux System Administrator
ADNET Systems is looking for a Linux System Administrator with five years of experience to manage computer systems supporting the GEDI Science Operations Center and ICESat2 mission operations at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. These systems currently consist of a mixture of Linux and Mac computers. The Linux system administrator must demonstrate an ability to proactively manage systems, looking ahead to mitigate issues before they become problems, in a mission operations environment that includes changing scientific and security requirements over time.
Linux System Administrator Requirements:
- At least five years experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or its derivatives.
- Experience working with Ubuntu servers.
- Experience working in a Data Center
- A working knowledge of managing Mac computers
- A working knowledge of SELinux
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrates initiative and has managed projects independently
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Basic competence installing Python packages systemwide and understanding Python errors.
- Ability to install and configure open source and third party software
- Experience managing clusters of computers that use centralized job management
- Strong communication skills including the ability to discern the intent of requests and offer informed recommendations.
- US Citizenship required.
Linux System Administrator Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of high availability and fault tolerant environments
- Experience implementing Government networking and operating system security controls. The ability to adapt to changing security requirements and their impact on workflows.
- Experience with a clustered Linux environment
- Software development experience, especially in Perl, Matlab, Python, C or Fortran
- Basic competence with Git and Puppet, or similar source and system management tools
- Demonstrated ability to document workflows or data flows
- Experience testing configuration and software changes in a development environment
- Systems backup and restoration
