SA016 Linux System Administrator

ADNET is looking for a system administrator (SA) to manage diverse IT resources in the scientific research-oriented environment of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Earth Science Division. This SA will primarily manage Linux server and desktop systems while assisting in the support of Windows and Apple-based desktops, laptops, and server systems.


– 5 years experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or derivatives

– Experience with or knowledge of Ubuntu, or Debian, Linux

– 5 years experience with LAMP stacks

– Experience with or working knowledge of managing relational databases preferably MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL

– Scripting in one of more languages, such as: Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl

– Familiarity of virtual machine technologies in Linux environment: KVM preferred

– Knowledge of backup systems and concepts

– Ability to install and configure open source and third-party commercial software.  Scientific software is preferred

– Ticketing system experience and knowledge of concepts.  Ability to adapt to any ticketing system

– Understanding of and experience with documentation and publishing to centralized tools/repositories

– Work in a data center environment with proper protective gear

– Ability to perform Tier 1 to Tier 3 duties and communicate issues and resolutions to customers

– Highly organized with the ability to keep track of and prioritize work

– US citizenship required


– Experience with using the Atlassian suite of productions: Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo.

– Experience with at least one configuration management tool. Puppet is preferred

– Working knowledge of Git and experience with using Github

– Experience with CIS Benchmarks or Government baselines

– Familiarity, knowledge of, or experience with SELinux

– Experience with working with mod_security

– Web application deployment – Drupal, Node.js, Tomcat, Atlassian suite

– MacOS and Windows client experience with typical interaction with Linux

– Installing and using UNIX utilities on Windows and MacOS clients

– Familiarity with scientific software licenses and license servers. FlexLM is preferred

– Experience with data center environments, requirements, server hardware, racking equipment

– Systems administration experience at a NASA facility will be highly desirable
