SA012 Desktop and Cloud System Administrator

The Cloud System Administrator will deploy and maintain (hardened) Macintosh, Windows, and Linux systems in an enterprise environment and will actively support those systems. A key role of this position will be to assist developer efforts to package and deploy containerized/hybrid cloud applications.  Our Desktop and Cloud System Administrator will be required to become familiar with NIST, US Gov’t and NASA IT policies and directives, and will implement security controls as required by these policies and directives while ensuring that the systems support the requirements of the scientific users.

  • Install hardware and software for desktop and mobile systems
  • Support developers in efforts to package and deploy containerized/cloud solutions
  • Apply patches and secure configurations to systems and applications
  • Provide technical support to users
  • Document helpdesk work via ticketing system
  • Document procedures on wiki
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Keep up-to-date with security bulletins and customer mandates
  • Attend OS-specific working group meetings as well as security-related meetings/presentations at GSFC
  • System and application log analysis
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Two or more years of experience managing computer systems and providing deskside support.
  • At least one year of experience with Docker (or similar technologies) and Cloud technologies (e.g., AWS)
  • Experience with basic hardware troubleshooting and repair
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including technical and service writing and the ability to document work
  • A security mindset, a willingness to learn, a team-orientated approach, and great customer service skills
  • U.S. Citizenship


  • Experience with Shell programming and at least one scripting language (Python, Ruby, BASH, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Experience with one or more of the following applications or tools: Jamf, BigFix, NESSUS, Managed Software Center (Munki), WSUS, Symantec End-Point Protection, Active Directory
