SA009 Desktop System Administrator at NASA

Come see your career take flight at NASA!

We are looking for a system administrator with five or more years of experience to manage a collection of Microsoft Windows and Mac systems in the Atmospheres laboratories of the Earth Science Division (ESD) at NASA/GSFC; the candidate will manage predominantly Windows workstations and laptops but is expected to assist with managing Mac systems as well.

The candidate will work directly with scientists to enable their data processing and scientific needs while implementing NASA policies and requirements. Excellent Windows and interpersonal skills are therefore necessary; good Macintosh skills are a very strong plus.

Given the scientific nature of the customer base, previous experience in a scientific computing environment is advantageous. Knowledge of configuration and patch management tools, e.g., SCCM, WSUS, Jamf, BigFix, PDQ, group policy objects, and configuration profiles, would be helpful in this position. Experience with implementing PIV or CAC cards in the Windows and Mac environments is also helpful. Development of automated processes for system management will be a large focus in this position. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of RedHat-like Linux operating systems (CentOS and Scientific Linux) in order to assist when necessarily with the body of computational servers needed by the scientists.

Experience (required):

  • At least 5 years’ experience with system administration with Windows and Mac computers
  • Knowledge of configuration and patch management tools
  • US Citizenship required
