SA003 System Administrator

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center nestled in the Maryland suburbs of Greenbelt is just 30 minutes from the heartbeat of America – Washington, D.C. Now you can have it all, the nightlife, museums, great food and theatre. Work in a place that pushes the envelope of science every day, yet spy a deer or a Canadian goose as you stroll the grounds of Goddard during lunch.

Come, reach for the stars with NASA.

We are looking for a system administrator with five to ten years of experience to manage a collection of about 85 computers consisting of approximately 35 Linux workstations and servers (primarily CentOS and RedHat Enterprise Linux with a few Ubuntu systems) and 50 Mac workstations in the Atmospheres laboratories of the Earth Science Division (ESD) at NASA/GSFC. The candidate will work directly with scientists to enable their data processing and scientific needs while implementing NASA security policy. Strong Linux, Macintosh and interpersonal skills are therefore necessary. Previous experience in a scientific computing environment is advantageous. Most of the servers have at least one RAID storage system attached; therefore a good working knowledge of such storage systems is also necessary. Knowledge of configuration and patch management tools, e.g., Jamf Pro, Puppet, Ansible, BigFix or Spacewalk, would be helpful in this position. The ideal candidate will also have a some knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system and Active Directory.

Experience (required):

• Experience with RAID storage systems
• Knowledge of configuration and patch management tools
