PMO094 System Administrator
The Program Management Office facility of NASA’s Space and Earth Science Data Analysis (SESDA) contract is looking for a junior to mid-level System Administrator to support users and maintain desktops, laptops, and servers in a heterogeneous computing environment that includes Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems.
This is a full-time position but would be suitable for a qualified college student under a part-time work load. Salary will commensurate with skills and experience.
We are located at Goddard Corporate Park (GCP) in Lanham, Maryland, just a few minutes from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. We maintain networks and IT services on-premise as well as at AWS – both remote and in-person work at the facility is expected.
The position primarily supports Windows and Linux end-user systems and servers, but also requires administering a few Mac OS computers. We are seeking a candidate who is well-organized, reliable, takes ownership of assigned tasks and can meet deadlines, is willing to learn and adapt to quickly changing IT environments and technologies, has a strong interest in coding practices and cloud technologies and great troubleshooting skills, welcomes customer interactions with strong verbal and written communications skills, and can work both independently and as a part of a team. Duties of the position include:
• Maintaining and administering 40-50 end user systems with ~30 Windows desktops and laptops, 5 Mac OSX systems and ~10 Linux desktops and laptops
• Installing and configuring application software and computer hardware
• Implementing encryption and anti-virus software to enhance system security
• Deploying critical patches and upgrades to ensure that operating systems and software applications are compliant with IT security requirements
• Enforcing computer and network access controls consistent with GSFC IT security policies
• Performing and managing computer system backups
• Supporting team members and users with diagnosing and resolving computer and network issues
• In-person facility support work as required
Experience required:
• Two or more years of hands-on SA and coding experience
• Experience managing Windows Server with knowledge of Active Directory and developing Group Policy Objectives (GPO’s)
• Experience supporting Linux/Unix systems
• Experience with Shell programming or object oriented scripting languages (e.g. BASH, Python, Ruby, PHP, PowerShell, etc.)
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking including routing and switching concepts, firewalls, and wireless networks and familiarity with web package processing and the http-based RESTful API (post, get, …)
• Experience with basic hardware troubleshooting and repair
• A security mindset, a willingness to learn, a team-orientated approach, and great customer service skills
• US Citizenship required
Desired:
• Experience supporting Mac OSX systems
• Experience with LDAP, web-servers (Apache httpd, nginx), database management/administration,
• IT automation (esp. Puppet), ticketing systems (esp. Redmine), WordPress, virtualization and containers (KVM, Docker), logging technologies (Logstash, Graylog, syslog), reporting tools such as BigFix, DNS software and services (esp. AWS Route53)
• Knowledge of Cloud migration processes (AWS, OpenStack, Google App Engine, etc.), PKIX and X.500 concepts, data-center design, operations and safety procedures
• Experience with productivity suites (esp. Office365)
• Familiarity with Open Source software and Git, DevOps, ITIL and federal IT compliance frameworks (esp. FISMA)
• Certifications in System Administration, Networking, and/or IT Security
• Familiarity with NASA IT environments, Federal IT requirements and guidelines (FISMA, NIST) and awareness of industry best practices (CIS Benchmarks, FDCC/USGCB) would be ideal
