Linux System Administrator (SA035)

ADNET Systems is looking for a Linux System Administrator for a position at the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt MD. The candidate should have at least five years of experience with Linux, and must demonstrate an ability to proactively manage systems, mitigate issues before they become problems. They will work in a production and real-time processing environment that includes changing scientific and security requirements over time.

The position will support a variety of NASA earth science projects, including Global Precipitation Measurement, Micro Pulse Lidar Network, Cloud-Aerosol Transport System/ Cloud Physics Lidar (GPM-GV, MPLNET, CPL/CATS) operations. These systems currently consist of a mixture of physical and virtual Linux machines.

Requirements:

  • At least five years’ experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or its derivatives (e.g. Oracle Linux)
  • A working knowledge of setting up and maintaining virtual machines using KVM/QEMU.
  • Experience with RAID arrays and various RAID levels
  • Experience working with Ubuntu servers
  • Experience working in a Data Center
  • Experience setting up NFS servers and clients
  • Experience setting up webservers
  • Experience troubleshooting network connection issues (e.g. NIC configuration, SSHD connection problems)
  • A working knowledge of firewall configuration
  • A working knowledge of SELinux
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and has managed projects independently
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to install and configure open source and third party software
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to discern the intent of requests and offer informed recommendations.
  • Systems backup and restoration
  • US Citizenship required.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of high availability and fault tolerant environments
  • Experience implementing Government networking and operating system security controls. The ability to adapt to changing security requirements and their impact on workflows
  • Experience with a clustered Linux environment
  • Software development experience, especially in Bash, Perl, Matlab, Python, C or Fortran
  • PostgreSQL database experience
  • Basic competence with Git and Puppet, or similar source and system management tools
  • Demonstrated ability to document workflows or data flows
  • Experience testing configuration and software changes in a development environment
