HP070 HDRL Open Science Support Scientist

We are seeking a research scientist to support the Heliophysics Digital Resources Library (HDRL) at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The position will be responsible for identifying and leading the development of Open Science infrastructure at HDRL.

Duties include:

  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify technical hurdles to research scientist publication of Open Science research and the commensurate gaps in HDRL infrastructure and associated priorities for implementation.
  • Be responsible for assisting in formulating HDRL Open Science strategy and technical management of HDRL Open Science projects and their implementation and documentation.
  • Act as point of contact for HDRL Open Science user support.
  • Represent HDRL Open Science perspective at various forums, meetings, and working groups.

Experience:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a science field related to Heliophysics.
  • Publication background in Heliophysics, with demonstrated ability to author technical papers and communicate scientific and technical results.
  • Developing scientific software (Python desired).
  • Managing technical projects.
  • Public speaking/engagement.
  • Knowledge of scientific formats, data standards, and databases.

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

The candidate for this position will be expected to propose for grants and apply that funding to conducting active research in Heliophysics (HDRL-related) for up to 50% of their time. Remote telework is negotiable, with occasional travel
