HP069 Data Systems Developer

We are seeking a Data Systems Developer to support the Solar Data Analysis Center (SDAC) at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD in developing the next generation of NASA’s open science services.

The SDAC is NASA’s designated repository for data from NASA’s solar physics missions. Science data flow from spacecraft to the SDAC and are made available to the scientific community. New systems and services are required to support NASA’s Transform to Open Science initiative and the evolving data analysis needs of the scientific community. This position supports developing such systems in addition to performing big data analysis in cloud and on-premises computational environments.

Duties:

  • Maintenance, monitoring, and interactive visualization of data acquisition pipelines
  • Development of new data acquisition and verification capabilities
  • Development of systems and services that provide new data search and acquisition capabilities that run on cloud and on-premises high-end computing environments, with the goal of providing access to multiple petabytes of scientific data

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

Required Experience: 

  • 1-2 years developing software (e.g. Python, Interactive Data Language) for data processing pipelines
  • 1-2 years implementing log analysis tools (e.g. Nagios, Zabbix, and MMonit)

Desired Experience: 

  • Software version control systems (e.g. Git/GitHub)
  • Linux–based operating systems 
  • Data visualization 
  • Cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
