HP051 Junior Python Programmer (part time)
We are seeking a Junior Python programmer to support the development of data analysis software for the NASA/ESA Solar Orbiter mission. This is a part-time (20-30 hours per week) position that is based at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position may become full-time depending upon future funding.
Position duties
- Become familiar with the SunPy (https://sunpy.org) open-source Python library for Solar Physics data analysis and visualization.
- Support the parallelization of spectral fitting packages in the Astropy Python library used in Astronomy.
- Expand the capability of the Solar Orbiter SPICE instrument software to read data into a graphical interface tool.
- Update the SPICE data reader to comply with the latest version of the ndcube package designed for handling n-dimensional datacubes.
- Troubleshoot, track, and resolve technical issues.
- Work with users to improve existing features and develop new applications.
- Maintain software using the Git version control system.
Required Experience
- Recent Bachelors in Computer Science or Information Technology (or equivalent degree/diploma). Undergraduates will also be considered.
- Python programming (at least two years).
- Git version control system.
US Citizenship or Permanent Residence is required
