ES195 Communications Lead

We are seeking candidates to lead NASA’s effort to communicate effectively and innovatively the activities and accomplishments of its Heliophysics program, to a broad range of professional, lay, and stakeholder audiences.

Responsibilities

  • NASA is the world leader in heliophysics science. The Communications Lead will work with communications professionals and scientists around the agency to identify, develop, and coordinate a wide variety of communications efforts and approaches to tell that story and increase public knowledge of NASA’s heliophysics research and space observatories.
  • The incumbent’s home office will be located at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The position provides opportunity for innovation, visibility, and broad impact, working closely with NASA communications teams that consistently rank among the most effective in the federal government.
  • The Communications Lead will work with the Heliophysics Division at NASA Headquarters to identify, develop, and implement strategies for communicating with the public and the scientific, applications, and user communities. In addition:
  • Coordinate closely with the Office of Communications at NASA Headquarters and NASA field centers on agency-wide strategic communications efforts.
  • Collaborate with program and project personnel within the Division and across NASA Field Centers
  • Lead the coordination among a variety of communications teams with varying areas of expertise and skill sets.

Skills and Education

  • BA/BS in a communications or physical science field
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in public affairs or a similar field
  • Background in communicating science to public audiences.
  • Strong writing experience.
