ES192 Spanish Language Writer/Translator/Editor for NASA Missions and Science

We are seeking a Spanish-language writer who will join NASA’s Spanish-communications team.  The successful candidate will be based at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and will support the creation and production of Spanish content for NASA missions.   

This position will support a dynamic team of Spanish-language communicators in developing products that will inform and excite Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. and beyond, promoting NASA missions and science results and their applications in our daily lives, as well as highlighting the role of Hispanics at NASA.  

Support includes translating existing NASA content, copy editing/reviewing other translations, planning, writing, and revising original materials for publication on multiple platforms, assisting with news media events, and helping run NASA’s Spanish-language social media accounts and website. Products include, but are not limited to: web features, social media and multimedia copy, translations, and outreach materials.   


  • Native-level written and spoken Spanish.  Applicants will need to pass an interview in Spanish to assess language skills and translating and editing tests
  • Degree in journalism, communications, science communication, Spanish, or marketing, with 2+ years of related experience or equivalent
  • Experience in writing about science or technical subjects for non-scientists, in English and Spanish
  • Experience in translating and reviewing other people’s translations.
  • Exquisite attention to detail to ensure the quality and accuracy of original texts and translations
  • Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram) and how to optimize content for each platform
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple products and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to learn new skills and support projects beyond writing, editing or translating
  • Ability to adapt and adjust in a fast pace working environment
  • Facility with developing contacts and relationships with scientists and other communication teams across and outside of NASA, and a knack for mining content relevant to Hispanic audiences
  • US citizenship or permanent resident status

Desired experience and skills:

  • A degree in science or engineering
  • Qualified or certified translator and/or interpreter
  • Experience working with scientists to present their stories
  • Experience working with multimedia producers, animators, data visualizers, and graphics professionals
  • Experience in media relations
  • Experience in web design and web editing
