ES172 Science Writer

The successful candidate will support the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) by:

• Researching and writing articles related to JPSS science results, events in the project/program, profiles of mission scientists, and other aspects of the mission.
• Providing content for web features, press releases, newsletters, and social-media-ready items.
• Working independently to come up with original ideas for new stories related to the missions. Articles may include feature stories about science, instruments, or mission activities and will posted on the NASA and mission websites, various NASA social media platforms outlets, and other social media sites.
• The candidate should be well-versed in writing for different audiences, including scientists, various educational levels, and the general public.

Required:
• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Science journalism
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• The ability to relate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• A background in Earth Science or Earth Science journalism
• He or she should be able to work with relatively little supervision, and to work effectively as part of a team.
• At least 2 years’ experience writing about science is required.
• Must be US citizen or Permanent Resident
