SS095 & SS097 Assembly Technician

Within the Planetary Environments Laboratory of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, we have an opening for a precision, fine assembly technician to construct elements of space instrumentation to highly precise tolerances and with sufficient robustness to survive the harsh environment of launch and operations on a variety of planetary science missions.  The successful candidate must have experience working to assemble small metal and ceramic parts to high precision and must exhibit dedication to detail with patience and consistency.  It is desirable for the candidate to have worked in a clean room environment, where gloves, tweezers, and cleanroom garments can provide an extra challenge when assembling at the small scale.  Experience with metrology, small-scale fabrication, and quality screening of parts is also desired.

  • High school diploma, 2+ years experience in fine assembly work
  • Demonstrated experience assembling small metal and ceramic parts

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Clean room experience
  • Metrology and parts screening experience
